- Turn on the safety breaker and earth leakage breaker and check whether electricity comes on
- Write your name, address and method of payment (automatic bank transfer or paying at the bank or convenience store) on the post card attached to the safety breaker
- Send the post card to Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc. Tottori Branch Office
- If it is a local power cut, the distribution cable has been broken.
The power supply will be restored as soon as repairs are completed.
In the meantime, please turn off all irons, hair driers, etc. to avoid accidents.
- If only your house or apartment is affected, please check the safety breaker.
If the breaker is ON but there is no electricity, please contact Chugoku Electric Power Co, Inc.
If the safety breaker is OFF, please unplug the electric appliances you have been using
and turn on the safety breaker. If the electricity still does not come on,
please contact Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc.

Please take your gas bill to a designated window and make payment. Payment can be made at the Tottori Gas Payment Window, at any convenience store and at designated financial institutions. - Credit Card Payment
- Turn off all your appliances.
- Turn off the gas at the stopcock.
- Open the doors and windows. (Propane gas is heavier than air and can be swept out with a brush)
- Do not use any fire. Do not touch the switches for the ventilation fan, lights, or other electric appliances.
- If the cause of the gas leak is unclear, please stop using the gas and contact your gas supplier.

When you first use electricity, please follow the procedures described below
Charges
The meter is checked and a notice of the amount of electricity used is sent every month. The monthly charge is also shown on the notice.

Payments
Payment can be made by automatic transfer from your bank or postal account or by paying in cash at a bank, post office or convenience store.
Power Failure
If the electricity in your home suddenly goes off, please first check whether your neighbors have also been affected. Also it is very important to have a flashlight ready for a sudden blackout.
How to have the electricity disconnected
If you move out or wish to have the electricity disconnected,
please contact Chugoku Electric Power Co. Inc. in advance to make the necessary arrangements
for final payment and cancellation of contract.

Propane Gas: your local LP gas retailer
There are two types of gas service in Tottori City, depending on the area: city gas and propane gas. Please check which service is provided in your area and make contact with the service provider.
Starting of gas service
(1) City Gas
Please contact Tottori Gas Co., Ltd. and they will send someone while you are home to check whether your gas appliances are suitable for the type of gas used and will open the valves.
(2) Propane Gas
Please contact the LP gas retailer stated on the gas cylinder installed and they will send someone while you are home to check your gas appliances.
Charges
The meter is checked and a bill is sent to your home every month. The total bill consists of the basic rate, the charge for the amount of gas used, and tax. Propane gas rates vary depending on the retailers because the services they provide such as security measures, apparatus, differ from retailer to retailer. Please ask your retailer for a detailed explanation about the service they provide.

If you plan to move and want to have the gas disconnected, please contact the appropriate gas company or retailer in advance to arrange for the meter to be checked and to make the final payment.

The tap water in Tottori City is safe to drink.
To start the water service (when moving in)
When you first use the tap water or public sewage, please contact the Tottori City Water Works Bureau (by mail or telephone in advance and provide the information listed below. If the public sewage system is connected, water service will be started automatically.
To discontinue the water service (when moving out)
If you wish to stop the water service, please notify (by mail or telephone) the water works bureau in advance. If the public sewage system is connected, the water service will be stopped automatically. Please provide the following information when contacting the waterworks bureau.
Charges
The meter is checked every two months and the bill charged the following month. If you use public sewage, it is also charged at a rate based on the amount of water you use.

Payment methods
►Automatic bank transfer
The charges for tap water and sewage will be automatically transferred from your account
in the following month of the meter check.
If you wish to pay by this method, please take your personal seal
(that you have registered at your bank) and bank account note to your bank or
Water Works Bureau to complete the formalities.
►Payment in person
Please take the "notice of payment of water charges" and
“notice of payment of public sewage system charges” to a
financial institution or the Water Works Bureau, and make the payment.
The two notices will be sent to you in the following month of the meter checking.

Garbage Collection

Please sort your garbage into eight types as specified below.
Please put out your garbage to the designated collection sites
by 8:00 a.m. on the collection day. Please do not put your garbage
out on other days as cats or crows will tear the garbage bags and
scatter the contents around the collection site. The collection days
vary from area to area so please ask your neighbors.
Batteries for machineries (car batteries etc.) or containers for gas,
oil, toxic substances, paints, etc. are not collected. Please contact the retailers for disposal.
Combustibles
This includes kitchen waste, leftover food, clothing, paper,
wood, garden refuse, small amounts of ash, etc. Combustible garbage is collected twice a week.
Please put your garbage into the combustible garbage bags designated by Tottori City.
The bags are sold at supermarkets, do-it-yourself stores, drug stores, or convenience stores in the city.
Plastics
This includes egg cases, detergent containers, caps and labels
of PET bottles, packages with marks, etc.
Plastics are collected once a week.
Please put your garbage into the plastic garbage bags designated by Tottori City.
The bags are sold at supermarkets, do-it-yourself stores, drug stores, or convenience stores in the city.
Used paper
This includes newspapers, books, magazines and cardboard. Please sort them by type and bind them firmly. Please do not use packing tape or any adhesive tapes. Used paper is collected once a month.
Styrofoam trays
Please put white Styrofoam food trays directly into the collection box without putting in it into an extra garbage bag. Trays are collected once a week.
PET bottles
This includes PET bottles of juice, alcoholic beverages, tea, and soy sauce bearing the
sign. Please rinse the bottles out,
remove their caps and labels, and put them into transparent or semi-transparent bags.
PET bottles are collected twice a month.
※Bottles with smell or grease that are difficult to remove such as dressing,
grilled meat sauce, kimchi sauce, or cooking oil are sorted into plastic garbage.
Recycables (glass bottles and cans)
This includes glass bottles and tin cans of beverages and food.
Please put them directly into the recyclables collection box without any bags.
Recycables are collected once a week.
※Bottles and cans that are damaged or stained badly are sorted into the small crushable garbage.
Small non-combustible waste
This includes small non-burnable garbage (50cm or less) other than bottles,
cans, plastics, or batteries. Please put them directly into small
non-combustible waste collection box without any bags. They are collected once a week.
Please make a hole in spray cans and cartridge type gas cylinders to completely empty them out.
Batteries etc.
This includes batteries, mercury thermometers and fluorescent tubes.
Please sort them into each type and put them into transparent or semi-transparent bags.
They are collected 6 times a year.
※Button batteries are not collected. Please return them to a watch shop, camera shop, etc.
Collection of bulky garbage

Bulky waste (such as furniture, futon, home appliances other than "the four essential home appliances" described below) is not collected even if you break it into small pieces. Please contact one of the designated disposers below for disposal.

The "four essential home appliances" (Kaden yonhinmoku)
These include TV sets, refrigerators and freezers, washing machines and driers, and air conditioners.

Please contact the customer center of the manufacturer of your PC.
A collection fee and recycling fee will be charged.
However, no fee will be charged if your PC went on sale after October 1, 2003
and carries a mark.

or scanners and word processors.
